Welcome!
Well, 2023 is the latest attempt at jump starting this site. The previous attempts (2013 and then 2017) resulted in short-lived attempts. Life kept getting ridiculously busy, or I was ridiculously distracted, and/or most often - I was ridiculously without any ideas.
As stated in my profile, I am a Christian. But in today's world, many people claim to be "Christian".
A young friend recently told me about meeting a young lady. My friend is a Christian and strives to live his life true to biblical teachings. The young lady told him that she is Christian also, but that does not desire to follow the teachings of the bible. You can't follow Christ .... and not follow Him. It is not possible. We are presented diametric choices: life or death, light or darkness, good or evil. There simply is no middle ground.
So what does it mean when I say I am a Christian? It means that I believe in the traditional essential Christian doctrines:
- I believe in the One, eternal, triune, Godhead, referred to as the Trinity, that is revealed to humanity in three Persons that have the exact same nature and attributes.
- God the Father
- God the Son - revealed to us as Jesus Christ
- I believe Jesus, God the Son, set aside His glory to enter humanity as a man, to reveal the Father to us, and to rescue those who believe in Him from eternal separation from God often referred to as eternal damnation.
- I believe in the virgin birth of Jesus which was necessary to enter humanity without the stain of original sin that is passed to all people through the rebellious disobedience of the father of all people, Adam, in the garden of Eden.
- I believe Jesus lived a sinless life despite being tempted in all ways as we are ourselves.
- I believe salvation, which is restoration of fellowship with God, comes by God's grace through our faith in Jesus' atoning and sacrificial physical death and bodily resurrection.
- God attributes Jesus' payment of sin as righteousness to those who believe in Him because the required state of perfection to be in the presence of God cannot be achieved by anything they can do.
- God the Holy Spirit - who convicts people of their sin, and is sent to seal, in-dwell, and quicken followers of Christ.
- I believe the bible, a codex consisting of 66 books written by over 40 authors, who wrote in 3 different languages, who were from all walks of life from shepherds to kings, who lived on 3 different continents, using multiple literary types, and written over the course of more than 1400 years, and contains a singular message is the authoritative word of God.
- I believe it was written by men under direction and inspiration of the Holy Spirit. I believe that it was inerrant it its original writings, and through the careful and critical study of tens of thousands of ancient manuscript copies it has been preserved to an incredible level of accuracy without loss of either message or doctrine that thousands of years of opposition has failed to disprove or destroy.
- I believe it is inspired by God and beneficial for teaching, for rebuke, for correction, and for training in righteousness.
- I believe the enemy, called Satan, is a real spiritual entity. I believe that because of pride he rebelled and led a host of other rebellious angelic spirits against God. I believe that he and his evil spirits tempt all people into sinfulness and rebellion, that he tries shaming Christians for their sinful shortcomings and accuses them before God, and that one day at God's judgement he, with his evil spirits and all people who reject Jesus, will enter eternal punishment.
