Let me begin by saying that I am not connected with GotQuestions.org, any of its affiliates, or any of its contributors. I have not been in contact with anyone in connection with GotQuestions.org, and nobody in connection GotQuestions.org petitioned me to critique or promote this resource. My highlighting this site is solely based on my personal, positive, experiences of using this resource over many years in my own doctrinal research and growth.
This, in part, is how GotQuestions.org introduces themselves:
Welcome to GotQuestions.org, the flagship website of Got Questions Ministries, a network of sites with a shared mission: to glorify God and reach people for Christ by providing biblical answers to spiritually related questions. We are Christian, evangelical, theologically conservative, and nondenominational. As a parachurch ministry, our purpose is to come alongside the Church, joining in the Great Commission Jesus entrusted to His followers, by offering support and answers to those seeking clarity on spiritually related questions.Whether you are seeking guidance, looking for answers, or are curious about spiritual matters, we are here to serve you, support you, and share the profound truths of God’s Word with you. Got questions? The Bible has answers. We’ll help you find them!
GotQuestions.org was launched in 2002 which coincidentally is the time when God called me out of the darkness and filth I had submerged myself into. When I discovered GotQuestions.org, I often used it to discover more about topics I was having to relearn from decades of living away from God and to learn about topics brand new to me. Today, I still utilize it as a resource when studying to learn deeper matters of a topic, a difficult topic, controversial topics regarding biblical stances vs social stances, etc.
In my personal experience of utilizing GotQuestions.org over these many years, the ministry, the authors, and the contributors are unapologetic of, and unwavering in, the essential doctrines of Christianity. In the matter of secondary and tertiary doctrines, they are gracious and have in my opinion fairly represented competing viewpoints. Even within a church congregation, there are differing secondary doctrines held by its members while the essentials of the gospel message are rigidly held in unity.
However, there has also been a tremendous amount of division in the Body of Christ due to doctrines that do not, or at least should not, have “crucial” status. Examples include the timing of the rapture, young-earth vs. old-earth creationism, charismatic vs. non-charismatic, premillennialism vs. amillennialism, etc. These Christian doctrines are important. Every Christian doctrine carries some importance. But these doctrines are perhaps not ones worth dividing/separating over. There are dedicated, Christ-loving believers on both sides of these issues. We should not divide over non-essential issues, at least not to the extent of questioning the validity of another person’s faith. -GotQuestions: Why is Christian doctrine so devisive?
In using this wonderful resource, you can grow in your own understanding of doctrines and biblical views of society and in understanding of opposing viewpoints of others you interact with.
It wasn't long after my return to Christ that I was pressed on why I believed a certain biblical issue. "Because my parents taught me", while if accurate and true, is not a bad thing, but it is merely keeping your parents' faith and not making it your own. It is also an incredibly insufficient response to defend why you believe something. If you don't have at least a basic defense, your faith can be easily shaken when confronted and attacked.
GotQuestions.org not just a website, it is also available from the Apple Store, from Google Play, and for Amazon Alexa.
As a resource with over 9,700 articles and more being added, GotQuestions.org can be another tool for you to utilize while growing in your faith and in your understanding of doctrines and topics so you are able to explain and defend why you belief what you belief.
But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect.- 1 Peter 3:15
But even with good extra-biblical resources, be like the men of Berea in Acts 17 who when hearing the apostle Paul preach to them "received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so."
